DAIRY ALLERGY AND MILK ALLERGY
Dairy and Milk Allergies are often found in infants and children. Cows milk is often the culprit, but children can also be allergic to goat, sheep as well as soymilk. People who are allergic to cows milk are often allergic to the others. Milk and Dairy allergies rarely cause severe reaction leading to anaphylaxis. Should these symptoms occur, your doctor should be contacted. Infants and children with milk and dairy allergies, should just avoid eating and drinking products containing milk. Milk allergy generally is outgrown by the age of three.
Milk allergy must also be differentiated from milk intolerance or Lactose Intolerance. Milk allergies involve the immune system, while Milk Intolerance does not. Milk intolerance involves the lack of, or insufficient quantity of “Lactase”, an enzyme found in the body, that digests the milk sugar or Lactose found in milk and products containing or made with milk.
